JACKING STEPS

The first step in the jacking and cribbing procedure is to set up a safe jacking arrangement. This arrangement consists of two cribbing piles and two identical, hydraulically interconnected (hydraulically interconnected jacks are jacks that share a common hydraulic supply line from a single hydraulic manifold and pumping unit in a configuration so that the lifting pressure in both jacks is always equal) jacks placed at one end of the piece of transformer at the manufacturer-approved equipment support points.

The cribbing piles at the jacking end provide safety in the event that the hydraulic jacks fail to support the load. These piles will also support the load when the jacks are not used or removed. The other end of the equipment rests hard on cribbing to provide stability. This is very important because it prevents the load from rolling during jacking. This arrangement provides predictable loads in the jacks and at the cribbing points and prevents two-pointing. During the jacking operation, the cribbing piles adjacent to the jacks should be continuously shimmed to minimize the distance that the load will settle in the event that a jack fails.

The fundamental philosophy of the ISM Code is the philosophy of continuous improvement. According to IMO, learning from accidents should help to improve safety performance since the incidents can share the same underlying causes as losses.

LOADING SUPERVISION OF STEEL CARGO

The Surveyor should make his presence known to the Master, or his representative, before starting any on board survey work. He is also reminded that he should at all times observe local port/terminal and ship’s safety regulations. In the absence of such regulations the Surveyor shall carry out the survey following best safety practices. It is NOT necessary to survey cargo described on Bills of Lading as “scrap”,”slabs” or “billets” etcs (anything destined to be re-processed). Mounted and labeled conventional colour photographs (originals only) of cargo damage and general aspects of the cargo are required.

CREATING DATA BASED SYSTEM FOR ISM CODE

Some seafarers and shore staff feel that safety management systems has only brought more paper work and nothing else. But a detailed report on the impact and effectiveness of safety management systems suggests that “where safety management systems had been embraced as a positive step toward efficiency through a safety culture”, tangible positive benefits were evident. The basic philosophy of safety management systems is continuous improvement. The whole system has to be monitored at all times and any deficiencies that need correction must be noted.

Mount Bromo is unique, it has very large – 5.250 Hectare “ Sea of Sand “, with altitude 2,392 M above the sea level. It beckons majestically despite having the entire top blown off and with a crater inside that keeps spewing off white sulphurous smoke. Mount Bromo is situated inside Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, beside Mount Semeru at East Java, Indonesia.

Gunung Bromo itu unik, lautan pasirnya mencapai 5.250 Hektar, dengan ketinggian 2.392 M di atas permukaan laut. Kawahnya yang anggunan dengan keluarnya asap belerang yang tertiup angin. Gunung Bromo terletak pada Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, di samping Gunung Semeru di Jawa Timur, Indonesia.

TANTANGAN HIDUP YANG MEMBUAT HIDUP

Cerita ini saya dapat dari salah satu buku motivasi yang pernah saya baca. Begitu menggugah dan inspiratif hingga saya selalu ingat cerita ini sampai sekarang.
Suatu ketika ada sekelompok orang Jepang yang kerjanya menangkap ikan tuna, dilaut lepas. Setiap restoran-restoran di Jepang hanya akan membeli ikan tuna yang masih hidup dengan harga yang mahal. Masalahnya banyak ikan tuna yang mati didalam kolam buatan didalam kapal saat perjalanan kembali kedaratan. Dengan segala cara dilakukan untuk dapat mengatasi masalah ini tapi tidak pernah berhasil.
